This is one of the most disturbing articles I've read lately, and that's saying something. I'm not sure how to prepare my children for a world that eats its young.

Dear Lioness,
Yes, this is disturbing. Partly, one can keep in mind that the world has always been full of hardships and dangers. When I was your older daughter's age, I expected that by this time we'd face disaster due to running out of oil, if we didn't have World War III first.
Partly, one can try to analyze what has gone wrong, including the perverse effects of government programs, and also the high cost of housing and other real estate, due to our perverse tax system. You might want to look at my weblog, or try Googling on "Henry George."
